Whereas most readers prefer to read a story from beginning to end, it often can be a good idea for the author to start with the ending.
Anyone attempting to write a story “organically” must sooner or later choose the story’s trajectory and decide how it should end. Neglecting to do so can result in the main character purposelessly meandering about for three hundred pages.
Writing the ending first means giving the story a beacon and a clear direction to its matter-of-course closing.
However, the ending you write at the beginning doesn’t have to be the ending in the end.
